This past Sunday, we started a 7 week sermon series on the book of Revelation. I highlighted a few things to keep in mind as we read and interpret Revelation.
- Revelation is a book of hope, not fear.
- Revelation is a book to be read and heard in the midst of our worship. It is the language of participation, prayer and confession.
- Revelation must be interpreted in light of its historical context.
I saw this morning that Dr. Dan Boone, president of Trevecca Nazarene University, and a former Associate Pastor at our church, wrote a brief blog yesterday about the idea of the rapture in the
Left Behind movie. His perspective is one that I am in agreement with, and I thought you might enjoy reading his blog, which gives some great insight into point number 3 above about the importance of historical context. You can find his blog entry
HERE.
For those interested, we are continuing our study on how to read and interpret the Bible on Wednesdays at 6:30 at church. We will be meeting in Room 200.
